Citizens Who Care

Description: Citizens Who Care is looking for a confident, sensitive, caring volunteer who would be willing to take one of our Davis clients for a drive or outing on a Sunday afternoon once or twice a month. She is a 96 year old lady with Alzheimer’s disease that has advanced to the stage where it is difficult to engage her. Conversation is limited, repetitive and often nonsensical; she tends to wander around the house always tidying and moving things about. This is wearing for her family who would relish having some time to themselves. If you have had experience with a family member with Alzheimer’s or with special needs, you no doubt understand this family’s need for a break.

This woman is pleasant and sociable, she loves to go on short outings but there is no doubt that being with her requires a good deal of patience and understanding. Someone with experience working with someone with Alzheimer’s disease, or with special needs would be a good candidate for this position.  In addition, if you are a pre med, nursing or psychology student with an interest in the elderly or dementia care this assignment would provide some useful insights for you.
