Description: Looking for volunteers to help with Family Activities Night Help. Help with children with crafts and games while giving parents a chance to mingle and relax. The event aims to provide a space for the families of faculty, staff, and student parents to connect with one another.
When and where: Thursday May 23rd at the WRRC (in North Hall on campus). Volunteers needed between 4-7:30pm. Tasks will include: helping with craft stations, leading group games, set-up, and/or clean-up. Work the entire time or just the hour that fits with your schedule!

Description: The 4th annual Tour de Cluck is coming in May 2013. This is an event that has now attracted city-wide attention and is going to be huge this year. Looking for volunteers for specific events (see below).

-Assisting at the various chicken coops on May 25th to assist the coop owners.

Description: Atkinson Youth Services has 6 group homes in the Sacramento area and 6 children in each home. There are 13 foster families and a non-public school with 17 students. In need of volunteers to work in firework stands. The fireworks stands provide funds for the children's extra activities such as football, cheer leading, band, and more. We have two stands we will need volunteers to do free face painting next to fireworks stands, hold signs in Uncle Sam costumes, spin free prize wheel, and work inside the stand selling fireworks. Volunteers working inside the firework stand must be 18yrs or older.

Description: Looking for volunteers to help with routine planting and plant maintenance, mulching, garden clean-up, plant labeling and installing educational displays. Volunteers must at least be 18 years of age.

Description: Citizens Who Care for the Elderly is searching for a volunteer who would enjoy visiting an elderly female client in Davis. This client is socially isolated and would benefit from a visitor. We ask for a two hour a week visit. The client is very interested in early folk music and would enjoy someone with similar interests who might like to do research with her. She also enjoys animals (she has a cat) and has an interest in organic chemistry. She likes to do needlepoint and cross-stitch embroidery. Volunteer should be someone who can make an ongoing commitment and will be available during the summer.

Description: Village Harvest is an organization that picks fruit from backyard trees in Davis and donates it to local food agencies to feed the hungry in Yolo County. Looking for volunteers to help with picking, sorting and transporting fruit; no experience is necessary.

Description: Davis Farm to School seeks volunteers and interns interested in environmental education and/or sustainable food systems to present 45-60 minute classroom presentations before students’ farm visits. The classroom presentation is very active and fun, involving role-playing, storytelling, props and singing. It focuses on the farm to fork cycle, the 6 plants parts, and information to prepare students for their farm visit.
Interns are trained on how to give the classroom presentation using a model curriculum and work in pairs to present to 2nd grade classes prior to their farm visit.
When and where: Requirements: Morning availability (~8:30 to 11:30am) at least twice a week on Monday,Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday for classroom presentations is required. Full day availability (8:30am to 3:00pm) on Tuesdays, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday to attend farm visits is desired. Ability to attend 2 hour training.

Description: The UCHI Davis chapter will be screening the documentary “Inside Disaster Haiti”, a powerful look at the disaster and aftermath of the 2010 earthquake that devastated the nation of Haiti. Description: We are seeking volunteer "Study Buddies” willing to be a positive presence and to provide under-resourced elementary students with the focus and encouragement they need to improve. Invest your time in our youth and find the joy that comes from making a difference, one life at a time! For a small time commitment (once a week from 3-5:30 any day) you can make a big impact.
Evergreen, the after-school tutoring and enrichment program, provides 1st through 6th graders with a safe, creative, and cultivating environment to do homework, improve academic skills, and participate in recreational activities. Volunteers are paired with a small group of students to tutor/mentor.

Description: Come volunteer for our eight-week summer day camp, which provides a safe, nurturing environment where elementary kids and teens can learn, be creative, have fun, connect, and build positive relationships with their peers and community. Students go on field trips in the community and participate in enrichment workshops. Adventure Zone (grades 1-6) and Liquid (grades 7-12) gives our kids a fun-filled, educational summer while keeping them safe and out of trouble.

Description: Volunteers are needed to serve as computer instructors for older adults. Various schedules are available and most classes are 1 ½ hours in length and meet once a week during an 8-week session. The volunteer instructor may teach up to six students in our computer lab.
Desired qualifications- patience, good communication skills, enjoys working with others, experience using Microsoft software, XP or Vista operating systems, Internet Explorer, etc.
When and where: Length of commitment- Once a week, for 8 weeks, 2 hours each time (15 minutes set up/shut down) plus time spent reviewing curriculum before each lesson. Our classes are held Monday through Friday between 9:30 am and 3 pm.

Description: The Crocker Art Museum is currently recruiting members for our Street Team! The Crocker Art Museum's Street Team is an elite group of volunteers responsible for doing community outreach at various fairs, festivals, and other events in the Sacramento region. Volunteers help to teach people about the various types of programs, classes, and exhibits at the Crocker and always have a hands-on art project for people to take away.
The ideal candidate for the Street Team is outgoing, loves the Crocker, has reliable transportation, and is available for weekend events.

Description: The California Indian Manpower Consortium, Inc. (CIMC) is launching a youth tutoring program and is looking for volunteers to tutor. Program youth are generally between the ages of 17 and 21, and are either seeking a GED/high school diploma or are basic skills deficient (i.e. they do not test at a high school level). We are interested in anyone regardless of race or age.

Description: 'Walk with a Doc’ strives to encourage healthy physical activity in people of all ages, and reverse the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle in order to improve the health and well-being of the country. "Just Walk" is a free, non-profit program for anyone interested in taking steps for their health. We plan to have a walk every month.
When and where: The Walk will take place in Sacramento County. Each walk will start at 8:15 with registration. At about 8:30 our Doc leader will begin his/her 10 minute chat about health, then the walking starts at 8:45. We plan to walk for about 30 minutes (this depends on the park, etc), so the whole thing should take around an hour.

Being a foster care provider is ideal for people who may not be able to commit to having a pet full time, but are willing to give a few weeks to make a huge difference in the life of a homeless pet.

Description: Have you ever been to summer camp? Since 1955, MDA has thrown into full throttle, a week designed to break down barriers and provide the same unforgettable experience for kids with muscular dystrophy. It is a place where everything is accessible, where fellow campers are just like them, and were no boundaries exist! Of course these camps would not be possible without the help of volunteers. Volunteers work one-on-one with campers ages 6-17 for the week, and serve as a caregiver and buddy.

Description: Looking for tutors/mentors for teens at Douglas Middle School, Woodland – ASAP!! Description: Camp AmeriKids, a summer camp for children living with the challenges of HIV/AIDS and sickle cell disease, is looking for caring, responsible, energetic and fun counselors for our 2013 season. A volunteer counselor team is responsible for the 24-hour supervision of a cabin and maintains a camper to counselor ratio of about 2 to1. Applications are located online.

Description: The internship program allows students and young professionals to come to Panama and gain cultural exposure, work experience, and knowledge in order to create a project that will ultimately help shape this sustainable community. We plan to break ground in May of this year which will bring many opportunities for students to work with experts in various fields.
When and where: Internships take place in 3 venues: creating the town's foundation in Kalu Yala; creating relationships in the neighboring town of San Miguel; and working on business logistics in Panama City. Since Summer 2010, Kalu Yala has had interns from 39 states, 13 countries and 92 universities.

Description: China California Heart Watch is a non-for-profit public charity whose mission includes medical research, teaching and clinical care in rural Yunnan Province, China. Our internships afford students first-hand experience of medical problems—particularly cardiovascular problems—and care in the impoverished communities of Yunnan Province.
Each of our seven internships is open to 10-25 students. Prospective interns will be interviewed to determine suitability. Applicants must express an interest in pursuing a career involving health or health-related care in underserved populations. Knowledge of Mandarin is desirable, but is not a selection criteria.
When and where: Participants will travel and work with faculty from Kunming and Dali Universities. Students will also have the opportunity to help conduct a clinical research program while staying in villages in Yunnan.

Description: Child Family Health International (CFHI) is a nonprofit that offers socially responsible Global Health Education Programs for students of all levels interested in health or medicine. Through CFHI participants go on 4-16 week placements alongside local healthcare professionals in underserved communities. Participants rotate through clinics and hospitals, attend medical lectures, and become immersed in the healthcare system of the community
CFHI is currently accepting applications for all global health programs, from January through December of 2013. CFHI offers US $1,000 program scholarships year-round. There are three scholarship rounds each year, based on program dates. CFHI is now accepting scholarship applications for funding for any CFHI Global Health Education Program from January-April of 2013.

Description:Global Student Embassy is a non-profit committed to empowering young people to capacitate local and international sustainable community development. This year, over spring break, UC Davis students will be travelling to the impoverished community of Chacraseca, Nicaragua to address issues of food scarcity and environmental destruction.
We are looking for interested student volunteers to join our trip and help capacitate projects like organic school farms that will feed hundreds of local students. (Speaking Spanish is not mandatory - translators are provided). The project is also coordinated by a professor of Agroecology and a local professor trained in biointensive farming methods and sustainable community development.
