Tree Planting
Date/Location: Saturday, October 31 st from 1:00-4:00pm, Davis
Description : A local nonprofit wants volunteers who are willing to grab shovels and plant trees. The planting is part of National NeighborWoods Month, a campaign run by the Alliance for Community Trees.
Tree Davis is looking for volunteers who can help maintain young trees planted within the past one to three years.

Family Night in Oak Park
Date/Location: Wednesday, October 28 th from 5:00-7:00pm, The Oak Park Community Center ( Sacramento)
Description : The Oak Park Community Center (located at 3425 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard) is hosting a family night on October 28 th from 5-7 pm. Volunteers are needed to help with set up, assist with activities, break down and clean up. Volunteers must be at least 16.

Chancellor’s Undergraduate Student Advisory Board
Description : The Student Assistants to the Chancellor, Allison Zike and Nina Massoumi, are recruiting 12-14 students to serve on the Chancellor’s Undergraduate Student Advisory Board. This board is meant to compose of students who represent various areas of student affairs in order to advise Chancellor Katehi on issues that affect students such as the budget cuts, fee increases, and other aspects of student life.
We are highly encouraging all of you to apply for the position. It is a wonderful opportunity to express your voice and the voice of your community or department in the decisions that are being made in Administration.

Davis Cold Weather Shelter
Description : Davis Community Meals (DCM) is a non-profit, non-denominational organization whose mission is to provide low-income and homeless individuals and families with housing, food, and human ser-vices to help them rebuild their lives.
We are recruiting volunteers for our cold weather shelter that is opening on November 16, 2009. The shelter provides overnight accommodations to 10 homeless individuals; 8 men and 2 women. It will be open every night from November 16, 2009 to March 31, 2010, all holidays included. Volunteers perform intakes, interact with the shelter guests, ensure the safety and security of all, and learn valuable life skills.
The shelter opens at 6 pm each evening. During the hours of 6 pm to 11 pm, there are three volunteers on-site. From 11 pm to 8 am, there are 2 volunteers on site. Training will be provided.

Holiday Carol Singers and Musicians
Date/Location: Ongoing, Old Sacramento
Description : Help us bring in the holiday cheer this November and December by volunteering your talents as a singer or musician. School caroling groups and performance groups are encouraged to apply. Please submit a cd, tape, or come in for a rehearsal.

Moral Values Program (MVP)
Date/Location: Ongoing, Sacramento, CA
Description : In need of volunteers to help tutor and mentor kids of all ages in the MVP program. Volunteers have the opportunity to help students that live in abject poverty to succeed in a program that gives them the opportunity. Volunteers can commit long term or short term.

ASUCD Environmental Policy and Planning Commission
Description : ASUCD's Environmental Policy and Planning Commission is hiring for Winter Quarter! If you're interested in repairing campus environmental issues and raising awareness about global environmental issues, then this commission is the place for you!

Director for “The Vagina Monologues”
Description : The Women's Resource and Research Center, in collaboration with the Consortium for Women and Research, is pleased to announce that “The Vagina Monologues” will be performed again this year, in February 2010. We are now searching for a Director for this year's performance.
Anyone is welcome to apply. Women, women-identified folks, and women with intersections of identities are strongly encouraged to apply. Theater experience is a plus, but not required. The most important requirement for directing The Vagina Monologues is the desire to build a larger womyn-centered or feminist community at UC Davis, in the City of Davis and with the larger V-Day initiative: http://www.vday.org/.

Camp Adventure Youth Services
Description : Interested in traveling abroad for free and working with children?
UC Davis students and students from Sacramento State and community colleges can become camp counselors or swim instructors abroad, receiving air fare, housing, plus a daily stipend and weekends off for travel. Camp Adventure places 900+ college students and recent graduates in both summer and school year youth development and camp counseling programs on U.S. military bases, British garrisons and some U.S. embassies in Europe and Asia.
In 2009, 42 UCD students and 20 CSUS and California community college students enjoyed rewarding internships in England, Russia, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Korea, Japan, Guam, Hong Kong, China, Marshall Islands, Okinawa and the United States, e.g. Hawaii, Pennsylvania & Florida.
There are many benefits of participating:

-Living stipend of $22 a day issued prior to departure

The International Conservation Partners Program
Date: Ongoing (1 hour per week)
Description : The International Conversation Partners Program is looking for motivated, outgoing individuals who can give an hour a week of their time to meet with an international visitor to our community. You and your partner will decide on a mutually convenient day, time and place to meet – conversation topics range according to your interests. This is a fun way to help someone from another country improve English conversation skills, and you can learn more about a place in the world you’ve never been to but might want to visit some day.

Teacher Aide/Intern: 3rd Grade Class
Description : Third grade teacher is seeking for aides/interns to work in her class on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8:30-12:00 this fall at Willett Elementary School. Aides must enjoy working with children, like to help, can see a need and fill it, and have good English skills. Aides need to be here long enough to get a feel for the class and for the children’s needs. For this reason, aides are preferred to be here more than one day per week.
Responsibilities:
- helping students with work and skills in reading, writing, and math
- helping kids with "homework club"
- work with English language learners.
- correcting/checking some work
- helping with organizing or preparing some materials
- helping children on various sorts of projects

California JusticeCorps Program
Description : The JusticeCorps program provides equal access to justice by recruiting university students to serve in overburdened legal self-help centers throughout California. JusticeCorps members receive intensive training throughout the year so they can provide in-depth and individualized legal services to self-represented litigants under the supervision of an attorney.
Members assist litigants by:

Providing one-on-one direct service

Assisting with legal workshops

Helping complete legal forms
-
Conducting front desk triaging
All JusticeCorps Members:
-
Commit to serve a minimum of 300 hours during a one-year term (September, 2010 – August, 2011)
-
Work a minimum of 8-10 hours per week (one full day or two half days)
