Descriptions: The Yolo County Department of Alcohol Drug and Mental Health (ADMH) – Prevention Services is engaged in a community movement to empower the youth in Yolo County to reach their highest potential. We have adopted a research based model, known as youth development. ADMH Prevention Services encourages Yolo County communities to support prevention efforts by providing information, trainings, activities and programs which educate people and promotes community service. It also encourages building youth-adult partnerships which promote positive communities free of alcohol, tobacco and other drug (ATOD) and creating communities which value youth input and provides opportunities for young people to be active leaders and resources. ADMH Prevention Services facilitates collaboration among organizations and individuals who are concerned with alcohol, drug and mental health related issues. The staff at ADMH Prevention Services is dedicated to youth development, a process that engages young people in building the skills, attitudes, knowledge and experiences that prepare them for the present and the future. The youth programs in the ADMH Prevention Services include: FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE: Is a high school based club that is youth driven and youth led. It builds partnerships for positive and healthy youth development which engage youth as active leaders and resources in their community. CLUB LIVE: Is the middle school version of Friday Night Live. This is a youth development program for middle school age youth where they can experience fun and meaningful skill building activities as well as help implement them. It provides alcohol, tobacco and other drug (ATOD) education and ATOD free events. FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE (FNL) KIDS: Is the elementary school program designed for youth in 4th – 6th grades. It provides youth the opportunity to create, plan and implement their own activities. While providing them with the value of membership and belonging, FNL Kids also incorporates the teaching of such critical life skills as leadership, character development, decision-making and refusal skills. The young people are also given the opportunity to contribute to their communities through service and adult partnerships. FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE MENTORING: This is a peer to peer mentoring program where high school age youth are trained to mentor middle school age youth on a variety of life skills and ATOD topics. High school students are matched with middle school youth to help support and nurture positive role modeling. It provides opportunities for young people to be in ongoing mutually beneficial, caring relationships which strengthen a young person's resiliency to the challenges they face. Research has shown that mentoring relationships are linked to a long term positive youth development outcomes. YOLO COUNTY FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE (FNL) YOUTH COUNCIL: High school age youth from Yolo county help plan and implement youth led activities and conferences for youth. HAND TO HAND: Provides services to work with youth one-on-one; assist youth with transition from juvenile hall back into their community; provide Friday Night Live activities on life skills and ATOD topics at community schools and other positive resources.
