Diversity In Action: Jessica Law |
Hometown: Compton, CA
Year: Junior - Class of 2011
Major: Anthropology; declaring Community and Regional Development soon
Extracurricular Activities:
I am a volunteer with the Imani Clinic which is a clinic that targets African and African Americans but offers its services to anyone without health care insurance.
In my free time, I love to watch indie, foreign films, and run. My favorite films to watch are Indian and one of my all time favorites is Monsoon Wedding.
Why Davis?
I chose Davis mostly because of the campus and environment. As a sophomore in high school I visited Davis for a conference with the 4-H Leadership program. I fell in love with the campus and decided Davis was the university for me. I am happy with my choice and have yet to visit a campus which offers such a welcoming feeling.
What is your favorite part of being a student at UC Davis?
My favorite part about being a student at UC Davis is biking. I like being able to bike to class and work whenever the weather allows me to. It is a quick, cheap, and efficient way to travel and also keeps me in shape.
Most Helpful Resources:
- I would have to say the Internship and Career Center because internships are very important for hands-on
training and for students who graduate and want to be competitive on the job market.
- Meet with your major advisor and organize a tentative course schedule for each of your years spent at Davis that should include studying abroad plans, internships, and also space for interesting courses beyond your area of study.
- Another would be to utilize professor office hours, this is a good way to ask questions and connect with professors if you are not comfortable talking in class otherwise.
Internships:
I have interned in the Student Recruitment and Retention Center with the African Diaspora Cultivating Education (A.C.E) component.
Any Advice?
Be driven but also give yourself free time and rest. This will boost your motivation when faced with new challenges.
Fun Fact:
I am 4'11 and a 1/2 and I love it! **

are of interest to Davis students, easily navigated, require no fee or registration prior to viewing, and (for job sites) routinely list a significant number of entry-level positions in California.
New sites may be
submitted for consideration and are reviewed on a quarterly basis.
