International Graduate Student & Postdoc Career Symposium


 

9:15am - 10:15am: International Hires and the Law
This panel will be led by an attorney specializing in immigration law and an SISS International Student Advisor. They will address legal issues and discuss what is needed for employment in the U.S.


Ann Kanter is a State-certified specialist in Sacramento, California with concentration in employment-based immigration law, and the principal of Kanter Immigration Law Office. She has been a State-certified specialist for more than 20 years and was chosen as a Northern California Superlawyer for 2006 through 2009.   She is a graduate of Hastings College of Law, has authored numerous articles and is a past national board member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and a former Visiting Professor at U.C. Davis Law School.


Marie Manlapaz
is an International Student Advisor and Program Coordinator at Services for International Students and Scholars (SISS). She joined SISS in March 2008, after working at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) as an Immigration Specialist and Visitor Program Coordinator. Her training in the field of immigration law began when she worked as a Legal Assistant at the Law Office of Schoenleber and Waltermire. She received her B.A. at UC Davis in Sociology with an emphasis in Law and Society and minored in Asian American Studies.
