Nutrition

Students interested in the obtaining a Registered Dietitian (RD) certificate after graduation should intern in Clinical Nutrition, Community Nutrition and Food Service Management internships.


Clinical Nutrition

Organization: Sutter Davis Hospital

Location: Davis

Description: Students will assist RD in a hospital setting. Develop understanding of patient care process. Utilize diet manual, develop SOAP notes and chart patient's process. Opportunity to observe health education classes. Assist dietician with menu corrections/tallies.

Requirements: Nutrition/dietetics major.

Class level: Sophomore, Junior and Senior

Schedule: 4 hrs/week

Quarters Offered: Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer (10 weeks)



Community Nutrition

Organization: Elderly Nutrition Program of Yolo County

Location: Woodland

Description: Work with an RD on menu planning and nutrition education for seniors. Coordinate special projects such as meal satisfaction survey which includes designing, distributing and collecting survey, tallying results, and preparing analysis report. May also be involved in nutritional risk assessment and education.

Requirements: Nutrition/dietetics major.

Class level: Sophomore, Junior and Senior

Schedule: 4 hrs/week

Quarters Offered: Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer (10 weeks)

 


Food Service Management

Organization: UCD Medical Center

Location: Sacramento

Description: Food Service management intern shadows the chef, works line, assists with inventory and learns computer programs for inventory and menu planning. Opportunity to work special catering events.

Requirements: Mandatory registration and orientation. Proof of Rubella and Rubeola vaccination and TB test.

Class level: Sophomore, Junior and Senior

Schedule: 4 hrs/week
