Emergency Department Sutter Memorial Hospital - Sacramento Sutter Memorial Hospital is a Level 2 Trauma Center located in Sacramento. The SMH Emergency Room has approx 9-15 beds. Duties include working with staff and nurses to assist in patient care. Perform general stocking duties and transport patients. Opportunity to observe procedures. Must be motivated and outgoing! Great opportunity for all students! MUST MAKE A TWO QUARTER (Winter & Spring) COMMITMENT! & MUST PROVIDE OWN TRANSPORTATION

Mandatory Confirmation Meeting: Attendance at a confirmation meeting is required for all internships. Day and time will be provided when you sign-up. Be on time to this meeting or your spot may be given away. Any internship openings will be given to students who were unable to obtain an internship placement during sign-ups. Meetings last approximately 1 hour and you must stay the entire time. Bring student ID, paper, pen, class schedules, and your internship placement confirmation email (the 2nd email). Mandatory Orientation: The hospitals and some private clinics have a mandatory orientation that you must attend before volunteering. The day and time of your orientation (if applicable) will be provided when you sign up. If an orientation is required for your internship and you do not attend, you will be dropped from your internship with a penalty. Immunizations: Proof of Rubella and Rubeola vaccination, and TB test (within the last 3 months) required for many internships. Details will be provided when you sign-up. Emergency Department UCD Medical Center - Sacramento The UCDMC Emergency Room is a Level I Trauma Center located in Sacramento. There are 3 areas (approx. 50 beds- Includes Area 1, Area 3, and Flex) that comprise the UCDMC ER and serves patients 18 yrs and up. Duties include stocking supplies, transporting patients, and cleaning, and some clerical work. May have opportunity to observe examinations and diagnoses of patients. Must be highly motivated and outgoing!

Operating Room UCD Medical Center - Sacramento 8 hour shift required! Assist with sterilizing and packing surgical instruments, changing operating theaters, stocking supplies and transporting patients. After "chores" are complete, with approval from charge nurse, intern may be able to observe surgeries including open-heart, skin grafts, tumor excisions, appendectomies, etc.

Patient Support Services Intern (ER Waiting Room) Sutter Davis Hospital- Davis Greet and direct patients to registration/triage. Act as a laison to ER staff and patients. Duties include providing wheelchair assistance as needed, care for small children (vistor or patients) and Tender Loving Care (TLC). Patience is a must! After completing 4 weeks of the internship, alternate shifts can be selected. Great Internship for students new to the hospital setting. May have opportunity to observe examinations and diagnoses of patients. Must be highly motivated and outgoing!

University Surgery Center UCD Medical Center - Sacramento Learn the day to day functions of an operating room and the elements of effective patient care. After completing "chores" may be able to observe surgeries with permission of charge nurse.
