Cardio/Thoracic Step Down Unit (Post-op) Provides care primarily to adults who have a cardiac diagnosis and are being monitored on EKG and other machines. Assist the nursing staff by taking vital signs, weighing patients, patient escort and feeding, answering call lights and providing psychosocial support for patients. Opportunity to learn basics of telemetry (electronic heart monitoring). | |||||||

Be on time to this meeting or your spot may be given away. Any internship openings will be given to students who were unable to obtain an internship placement during sign-ups. Meetings last approximately 1 hour and you must stay the entire time. Bring student ID, paper, pen, class schedules, and your internship placement confirmation email (the 2nd email). Mandatory Orientation: The hospitals and some private clinics have a mandatory orientation that you must attend before volunteering. The day and time of your orientation (if applicable) will be provided when you sign up. If an orientation is required for your internship and you do not attend, you will be dropped from your internship with a penalty. Immunizations: Proof of Rubella and Rubeola vaccination, and TB test (within the last 10 months) required for many internships. Details will be provided when you sign-up. |
Child Life Child Life provides care and support for children that must remain in the hospital for an extended period of time. The volunteer's responsibility is to help these children work through their fears and concerns by organizing play activities in the playroom and at bedside. | |||||||

|
ENT/Internal Medicine (Inpatient-Main Hospital) Assist nursing staff in delivering care and service to adult patients with head and neck surgeries, chronic illnesses, infectious diseases and medical problems resulting from substance abuse. Duties include feeding, bathing, assisting patients in the restroom, escorting patients, changing sheets and some clerical work. | |||||||

MIND Institute Work with children affected with neurodevelopmental disorders (ie:Autism,FragileX Syndrome,ADHD) as a recreational therapy assistant while parents consulting with doctors. Monitor and log patient care. Opportunity to observe patient testing through one-way mirrors. Enter data and retrieve articles for research. Opportunity to attend speaker series and case conferences. YOU MUST MAKE A TWO QUARTER (Fall & Winter) COMMITMENT IN THIS DEPARTMENT! | |||||||
