Immunizations Required to do a Hospital Internship
You must have a copy of your immunization records for TB, Rubella and Rubeola at the time of your hospital orientation.
If you do not have copies of your immunizations by the day of your internship orientation, you may be dropped from the internship.
In the event that you are dropped for not completing your immunizations by the orientation date, the drop policy will be enforced, preventing you from participating in an internship offered by the Internship Center for a period of two quarters.
If you need to get copies of, or to update, your immunization records, see your family doctor or go to Cowell Health PRIOR TO the hospital's orientation date.
Plan Ahead!! A TB test (PPD) takes two days to be performed: one day for the injection and two days later to be "read." Therefore, you must allow time for the injection and "reading" the TB test.
Tuberculosis (TB) Test (PPD test): within the last 6 months.
If you have had a positive PPD test, DO NOT retake the test, you will need to have proof of a clear chest x-ray and follow-up completed by Cowell Health Center within the last 10 months. You may have to return to Cowell once a year to update your chest x-ray and document follow-up.
Rubella (German Measles): Proof of MR or MMR immunization or serology showing immunity to Rubella.
Rubeola (Measles): Two doses of Measles Vaccine (or MMR) given after 12 months of age or one dose since 1980 or serology showing immunity to Rubeola.
Hepatitis B Series is REQUIRED for Sutter Hospitals, Shriner's, Davis Community Clinic (CommuniCare) and recommended for UCDMC internships. You must have the first shot (of three) prior to hospital orientation.
Chicken Pox: Recollection of or vaccination for chicken pox required for UCDMC Child LIfe and UCDMC Urgent Care. Vaccination is NOT acceptable for UCDMC Pediatric Specialty interns - must have had chicken pox!!
