Step 1 - GET PREPARED

Research career options for your major 5stepcomputer

Get on the H&BS email list ! This will keep you up to date on job openings, workshops, career fairs and more!

Take some preparatory workshops. Some workshops offered at the ICC include such topics as resume writing, preparing for job fairs, interviewing skills, and how to find a job.

Become comfortable with the interview process and learn some commonly asked interview questions.

Visit our Career Resource Library (Room 215, South Hall) for multiple job listings and new career resource books!

Job shadow a professional in your career of choice (come to 203 South Hall to find out how).

Get your hands on a Career Resource Manual

Step 2 - WRITE A RESUME

Take a resume writing workshop through the Internship and Career Center. resume

Write a first draft, and make SURE to use the Career Resource Manual.

Have your resume critiqued!! Coordinators and student advisors are here to help you refine your resume.

Revise your resume.


Step 3 - SEARCH FOR JOBS AND INTERNSHIPS

Aggie Job Link is our online database that includes career vacancies, undergraduate research, post graduate research, and entry-level positions. It's NEW, make sure to fill out a profile and find out what is available today!! resume Sign up with Aggie Job Link. Career recruiting happens right here on campus! Aggie Job Links also connects graduating seniors, graduate students and alumni with employers hiring for full time career track positions on campus.

See what jobs are posted on the Student Employment site. This is the best and largest source to the latest job vacancies and postings for UC Davis students!

Surf the net for companies/associations that pertain to your field of interest.

Attend Internship and Career Fairs! This is an extremely effective way to gain contact with companies and collect information about possible career positions. Don't forget to bring your resume, dress professionally and collect business cards!

Attend company info nights.

Check out temporary employment agencies.

Network! This may seem obvious, but never underestimate the power of friends in high places. Talk with relatives, coworkers, professors, etc.

Step 4 - WRITE A COVER LETTER

Use the Career Resource Manual to see templates for the perfect cover letter.

Step 5 - INTERVIEW

Attend an interviewing workshop offered through the ICC. interview Submit a resume and cover letter to obtain an interview.

Research the company.

Prepare, in advance a list of questions to ask.

Dress professionally and be on time.

Send a thank-you email within 1-3 days of interviewing.

After 2-3 weeks, send a follow-up email to check on your status.
