Develop Your Own Internship

If you would like help in developing an internship, or if you are currently working in an area that may meet internship requirements, contact a Health and Biological Sciences Coordinator. We will be happy to help you:
  1. identify the type of internship you want.
  2. defineyour goals for the internship.
  3. determine the type of organization you want to intern with.
  4. locate organizations.
  5. prepare a resume and cover letter.

Get Your Internship Approved Before You Start

For approval, you will need a letter on the organization's letterhead, signed by on-site supervisor, indicating name, address, and phone number of the organization, name of the on-site supervisor, and a brief description of the internship. Bring this letter to a Health and Biological Sciences Coordinator for approval.

  2. The internship is consistent with the student's career and academic goals, and has educational value.
  3. The on-site supervisor is made aware of his/her supervisory and evaluation responsibilities at the beginning of the internship.
  4. Completion of all parts of the transcript notation form (TN), including proposal, supervisor evaluation and student final report.
  5. Intern must work a minimum of 40 hours per quarter.
  6. In addition to TN, you may be able to earn units. Only faculty may award units; contact the faculty member's departmental secretary or ask a coordinator for help.
