CAARE Center UCD Medical Center - Sacramento Accompany children to their medical clearance exams. Provide support and assurance to children in a child friendly atmosphere to aid with comfort and assist with transition into emergency shelter care. Read stories and play games with children while they wait for their medical clearance. Complete with training and demographic information on the Dept. of Justice 900. Collaborate with Child Protection Services staff.

Cancer Clinic and Education - hbs2706 VN CARES The Vietnamese Cancer Awareness, Research and Education Society (VN CARES) was founded in 2000 in response to findings that Vietnamese women are five times more likely to get cervical cancer. The goals of the organization are to promote cancer awareness and assist women in receiving breast and cervical cancer screenings. VN CARES does outreach in the community, educates women about breast and cervical cancer and provides clinical services: Mammogram, clinic breast examination and Pap smear. With the support of the UCDMC OB/GYN Dept., Planned Parenthood, American Cancer Society, and Health Education Council, VN CARES will provide interns with an opportunity to work with health professionals in a clinical setting, trained by the American Cancer Society as a facilitator. Interns will interact one-on-one with a diverse group of women.

Endoscopy UCD Medical Center - Sacramento The Gastrointestinal (GI) Lab performs upper and lower endoscopies, laser therapy, biliary procedures, liver biopsies, dilations and motility studies on adult and pediatric patients. Observe procedures, set up examination rooms and stock supplies. Only one intern per day.

Family Pracitice UCD Medical Center - Sacramento Greet patients, assess weight and show patients to exam room, assist in setting up exam rooms for special procdures, escort patients in hospital and run errands for staff as requested. Intern may be able to observe special procedures with prior approval from nurse manager, designated nurse supervisor or attending physician. YOU MUST MAKE A TWO QUARTER (Fall & Winter) COMMITMENT IN THIS CLINIC!

General Pediatric Clinic UCD Medical Center - Sacramento this clinic environment is similar to a private pediatrician's office. Help nurses with in-take procedures such as weighing patients, measuring height, inputting patient data into the computer and filing patient records.

Neuroscience Clinic UCD Medical Center - Sacramento Assist staff with appointment confirmations, filing, FAX and alphabetizing forms. Prepare packets for nurses examining patients. Opportunity to shadow physicians (including neurosurgeons) and nurse practitioners. Observe procedures for pump installation/adjustments including synchromed (for pain medication) and ommaya reservoir (treatment for fungus infection).

Urgent Care Clinic UCD Medical Center - Sacramento Assist in the daily functions of the clinic including patient escort, taking vitals and assisting with clerical operations. This clinic cares for patients from both pediatrics and internal medicine. Patients are usually under 12 years of age.
